TV Mounting in Springfield, IL

Big screens have taken over the living rooms of Springfield, from finished basements in Chatham and Sherman to family rooms in the subdivisions out along Veterans Parkway and the front parlors of older homes near downtown. Mounting a TV on the wall saves floor space, keeps it out of reach of kids and pets and puts it at a better viewing height. It also asks a lot of the wall behind it. A 65-inch TV on an articulating arm puts real leverage on its anchors every time someone pulls it out, and the walls here are anything but uniform: drywall over wood studs in newer houses, plaster over wood lath in older ones, brick or stone around fireplaces, and occasionally metal studs in a finished basement or a condo.

We start by finding exactly what's in the wall and where the framing lands, then choose a mount suited to the TV's weight and the way you'll use it. We anchor into studs or masonry with the right fasteners, level the mount, hang the TV and check every fastener before letting go. Cables can be run inside the wall using rated in-wall kits where it's safe, or neatly in a paintable raceway when the wall is masonry or has insulation or fire blocking in the way. If you want a new outlet behind the TV, our licensed electricians install it during the same visit. Soundbars, streaming boxes and small shelves get mounted too, and we haul away the packaging when we're done.

What this covers

  • Fixed, tilting and full-motion wall mounts
  • Over-fireplace mounting on drywall, stone or brick
  • Stud finding and anchoring into framing or masonry
  • In-wall cable concealment with rated kits
  • Paintable cord covers where walls can't be opened
  • New outlet behind the TV when needed
  • Soundbar, speaker and media shelf mounting
  • Old mount removal, hole patching and cleanup
A note from around here: Over-fireplace mounts are the most common request in the two-story family rooms of newer Chatham and west-side Springfield homes, while in Harvard Park and the Washington Park area we're more often working with plaster walls and finding the framing behind them.

How a TV mounting visit usually goes

Plan the Spot

We talk through viewing height, seating, glare from windows and where your components will sit, and confirm the TV's weight and VESA pattern.

Find the Framing

We locate studs or masonry joints, check for wires and pipes and mark the mount position level and centered.

Mount and Hang

We install the mount with the correct fasteners, hang the TV, connect components and route cables in-wall or in a raceway.

Test and Tidy

We check the mount's movement and level, test the picture and sound, and clean up dust and packaging before we go.

Springfield basements are a big part of our TV work. Finished lower levels in Chatham, Rochester and the west side often have walls framed with wood or metal studs against poured concrete, sometimes with a gap behind the drywall, and some have soffits for ductwork exactly where you'd want a TV. We plan around that so the mount is anchored into solid framing and the cables have a safe path. In older homes near downtown, many living rooms have tall ceilings and windows on several walls, so we pay extra attention to glare and to placing the TV where it doesn't fight the room's original features.

What shapes the price in Springfield

TV mounting cost depends on the size of the screen, the type of mount and what the wall is made of. A medium TV on a fixed mount in drywall is the simplest job. Larger TVs, full-motion arms, plaster or masonry walls and over-fireplace installations take more time and hardware. Hiding cables inside the wall adds work, especially across fire blocks or on exterior walls, and adding a new outlet adds electrical time. Mounting several TVs or a TV plus a soundbar and shelves in one visit costs less than doing each separately. We'll give you a clear price after we know the TV, the wall and how you want the cables handled.

Neighbors often ask

Can you mount a TV above my fireplace?

Usually, yes. We check the wall material, the framing and the heat coming off the fireplace. With gas fireplaces, many TVs can go above the mantel if the temperature at the wall stays within the manufacturer's limits. With wood-burning fireplaces or very high mantels, we'll suggest a pull-down mount or a different location so you're not craning your neck or overheating the TV.

My walls are plaster. Can a TV still go on them?

Yes. Plaster walls in older Springfield homes are dense but brittle. We locate the studs carefully, drill with the right bits so the plaster doesn't crack and anchor the mount directly into the framing. If the studs don't line up with where you want the TV, we can add a mounting board across two studs or use hardware rated for plaster, depending on the weight.

Can you hide all the cables?

In most drywall walls, yes. We use in-wall power and cable kits rated for that purpose, rather than running extension cords inside the wall. On brick, stone or exterior walls, or where insulation and blocking get in the way, we use slim, paintable raceways so the cords disappear into the wall color. If you want a recessed outlet behind the TV, we can add that as well.

Can you mount a TV on brick or stone?

Yes. We drill into brick or stone with masonry bits and use sleeve or wedge anchors rated for the load, placing them in solid units rather than crumbly mortar joints whenever possible. Cables usually run in a surface raceway on masonry. If the stone is very irregular, we'll suggest a mount with enough adjustment to keep the TV level.

Do you install soundbars and speakers too?

Yes. We mount soundbars under the TV, on the wall or on a bracket that attaches to the TV mount, and we can mount surround speakers on walls or ceilings with tidy wire runs. We'll connect everything to your TV or receiver and make sure it's working before we leave.
